Saying that Lady de Grey's idea ("pensée") is charming but that he will sign it only with Mr. Higgins's consent, saying of M. Rigaud that "il a en effet chanté Pélléas d'une façon déplorable," that Viñes wrote to Debussy recommending F. Lemaire, asking if he knew that Riddez has sung [Saint-Saëns's] Samson at the Opéra, etc.

The Catalan pianist Ricardo Viñes, born February 5, 1875, in Lérida, Spain, was well known for his exceptional technique, his large repertoire, and his affinity for the music of his time. After a period of study with pianist Juan B. Pujol in Barcelona, Viñes went to Paris in 1887.
